Every year the beach front and neighbouring lagoon gets cleaned out, the white sand sifted and restored, surfaces checked and patched as required. Small windows of time between the warm winter and the first weeks before spring.

Children fear the chill of cold water. The die-hard swimmers go off to find an indoor pool for a few short weeks.

Playful rubberised shapes are uncovered after the waters are drained. Looming colourful mounds, speed humps and organic forms are revealed like upturned relics at the bottom of the pool. A myriad of exposed service lines and painted line-marking, edges, and safety warnings, look like a super graphic road map, stipulating boundaries for the next season’s water antics.

The children will return seeking the warm waters and lapping waves for another summer.
