BEACHFRONT LAGOON AND POOL SOUTH BANK
Every year the artificial beachfront and beach lagoon get cleaned out. Located nearby Brisbane’s city centre, these water features are a welcome respite for city dwellers and afternoon strollers from the neighboring suburbs. Each year, the white sand is sifted and restored, services checked and pool surfaces repainted in the small window of time between the tail end of our warm Winter and the first Spring.
Children fear not the chill of cold water but stay home for these few short weeks, and the die-hard swimmers go off to find an indoor pool to train.
Playful, exaggerated rubberized shapes are uncovered after the waters are drained. Looming colorful mounds, speed humps, and organic forms are revealed like upturned relics at the bottom of the pool. The exposed service lines, painted line-marking, edges, and safety warnings reveal a super graphic roadmap beached in the sunshine, stipulating boundaries for the next season's water antics.
The children will return soon, perhaps in late spring, seeking the fun, fountains, and lagoon’s lapping edge for another summer.
